First, I was born in 2000.
So it’s easy calculating my age. I was also born in South Korea, but grew up in Shanghai, China.
Second, I don’t know what I want out of life.
I really don’t. That doesn’t mean I’m not looking… for what I want out of life. It just means I’m on the search, whether it be college success, or a writing career.
Third, I want to make sense of the world around me.
What are the long term implications of Trump’s presidency? What are some of the culture wars that are ongoing? How did polarization begin in the U.S.? Why are topics about feminism and masculinity not nuanced (*It seems that there are only radical statements in the media today.*) ?
I want to write about topics with nuance and context. I want to argue respectfully, to agree to disagree. I don’t ever want to be stuck in my own echo chamber, to have my views regurgitated back to me as if that does something for me. So if I’m wrong, persuade me, I’m listening.
I hope I can be humble, to grow from my mistakes in writing when logical flaws occur and are pointed out to me. I also hope you’ll take my writing with an open-mind, to argue when need be. Don’t leave me here in my own echo chamber.
I don’t want to be a representative of my generation through my writing, I am just an opinion in a sea of opinions. I just want to understand.
I know I will get some things wrongs about the world, but I hope you’ll tell me what I got wrong.
